148149Photo #148149The cycle lane bollards are causing confusion among motorists, especially at roundabouts. This is making using the cycle lane more hazardous. May I suggest we adopt a scheme based upon that used in the Netherlands, where they use small concrete dividers to mark out the cycle lane, in place of white lines and the newly added bollards. These low profile dividers give a sense of security to the cyclist, allow cars to move over at any point on the road (to allow for emergency vehicles) and would prevent confusion at roundabouts. I have cycled in Dutch towns and these concrete dividers work very well.Cycleway:

136177Photo #136177The cycle lane takes you on and off the pavement, and eventually just ends, ejecting into the traffic just as the road narrows. It is also on the left of the road at the start of the one way system, but on the right at the end. It may actually be safer without the cycle lane, give cycling and walking priority on this or another route through one way system?Cycleway:

84364Photo #84364Ipswich town centre has recently had one of its major junctions re-vamped and part of that work involved the design and build of this cycle lane. The lane is designed so that cyclists go up the inside of stopped buses and are expected to give way to pedestrians and the bus when a bus has stopped. Or at least that is what the council thinks should happen.

The section is also raised and as you can see people walk on it! Cars have also approached it and had to take avoiding action to prevent them using as a launch ramp.

The whole design seems fraud with risks of accidents and all the cyclists I know think it is a terrible design.

14588Photo #14588This is confusing as the ACTUAL route 51 comes towards the camera and the route to Sproughton and Bramford is actually a link route to NCN1.

UPDATE:

This "cycle" path goes towards Sproughton for about 1/2 a mile before an "End of cycle route" sign appears in the middle of the path. The reason, A bridge with narrow and steep steps, up then down, is located a few meteres from the sign. The only way a bike would get through would be to carry it over, this would be difficult as it is extremely narrow.

Since then this sign has been taped over and possibly removed. Turns out it never was NCN51.
